This is the 16th year for the Miracle Match for Life Golf Tournament benefiting the Gulf Coast Marrow Donor Program, the Julie Rogers "Gift of Life" Program and LifeShare Blood Centers. Founded in 2002, Miracle Match for Life is a collaborative relationship through BASF and TOTAL and has raised more than $1.4 million through its benefit golf tournament. Proceeds from the tournament have furthered regional participation of marrow and blood donations and breast cancer screening and prevention in Southeast Texas. Last year's event was held at Bayou Din Golf Club and raised in excess of $120,000.
Marrow and blood donations and breast cancer screenings are less prevalent in the African American, Native American and Hispanic communities. The goal is to heighten awareness and share information about the provisions offered by the three participating organizations to encourage better utilization of these services.
